My adorable grandson and I having fun.
I’ve popped in for a quick "hello" as this week has been more than hectic.
Hope your life has been happy and meaningful.
By the way, thank you all for your wonderful messages and positive feedback – you have been keeping Gigi and I thoroughly entertained and we love it.
It was school holidays in Australia last week and my grandchildren have been spending some time with Mr J and I. Last week we took master 6 to Luna Park. Sydneysiders will know Luna Park well it’s a city icon. It’s nestled on the prime foreshore of Sydney Harbour overlooking the majestic Harbour Bridge and the stunning Opera House.
I spent countless days there as a child as I’m sure many Eastern Australians did the same. It’s a wonderful amusement park with some of the best views in Sydney. From the moment you enter the smiling mouth at the entrance to the park you are engulfed in the pure fantasy of it all.
I was childishly excited about visiting Luna Park after forty years and it was wonderful to have my grandson in tow. I could not believe what I was witnessing when I walked through the smiling mouth...it was a feeling of complete nostalgia, many of the rides and attractions had not changed since I was a child...
We spent at least 7 hours riding the old relics – dodgem cars, the wild mouse and the countless attractions in Coney Island. I love all the thrills of the rides and having my grandson sitting and screaming with delight beside me was pure joy.
Some days are so special and go down in history – this was one of those days...
More Crazed Bombings in Indonesia
It is devastating to see news flashes across the TV revealing scenes of utter senseless carnage. To imagine that a number of innocent people were enjoying a working breakfast at a western hotel and ended up being blow up by some deranged person is unfathomable. What an injustice! Why do these terrorists lose their basic instincts to love, nurture and respect each other. It is disgusting to think they are celebrating their evil deeds. And why on earth would anyone martyr themselves for such a ridiculous cause? How can we change all of this? Why can’t we help people understand that life is to be treasured and that each of us should feel safe living in this world.
As a mother and grandmother, I feel incensed that my children and grandchildren have grown to believe that bombings and terrorist attacks are the norm. What can we do to stop all of this insanity and realise that we are all part of the human race?

Celebration of Life

This week I attended two funerals, one was for my friend’s dear mother-in-law and the other I officiated at for a family that had booked me twice before (I’m a civil celebrant).
Arthur was the well loved and respected head of the family, he lived independently, played the piano, could solve Samuri Sudoku and cryptic crosswords. This is difficult for most people to conquer let alone a man of 93!
He still did his own tax returns and was involved with environmental issues. He wanted a better world for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The more I learned about this man the more in awe I became.
It just goes to show how much you can achieve in old age and still keep your mind sharp. Look after your body and brain – it is well worth it.
The Measure of a Man
Not ‘how did he die?’ but how did he live?’
No ‘what did he gain?’ but ‘what did he give?’
These are the units of a man, as a man,
to measure the worth, regardless of birth.
Not ‘what was his station?’ but ‘had he a heart?
And ‘how did he play his special part?’
‘Was he ever ready, with a word of good cheer
to bring back a smile, to banish a tear?’
Not ‘what was his church?’ Nor what was his creed?’
But ‘had he defended those really in need?’
Not ‘what did the sketch in the newspaper say?’
But ‘how many were sorry when he passed away?’’

Hello again wise women
I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful week!
The whole world has been talking about Michael Jackson and his many fans are mourning his sudden death.
He certainly did live a bizarre life and further weird stories about his existence are emerging on a daily basis.
Michael’s public memorial service was televised live around the globe with many dedicated Australian fans witnessing the coverage starting at 2am. I was still sound asleep at this early hour, however, I caught up with replays much later in the morning and it appeared that Michael received a dignified and much celebrated send off.
Wasn’t Mariah Carey’s performance absolutely amazing!
I personally thought that the speech from Michael’s daughter Paris was very emotional and I believe that being exposed to such a massive public arena at such a traumatic time in her life and at her tender young age, was probably not warranted.

After all the controversy that erupted during Michael’s life, I think most people believe that he was certainly a troubled soul but was also a talented and legendary entertainer. RIP Michael Jackson.
My Week

I have had a fairly interesting week , however, on one occasion I was left feeling a little deflated...
It’s quite uncanny really, I’ve just finished reading Gigi’s weekly blog and was amazed to learn that she hit a kerb while driving her car and damaged a tyre. I also hit a kerb...HARD and the brand new tyre ($200) went flat in 5 short minutes.
I called Mr J (thank heavens for cell phones) who came immediately to my rescue. I didn’t think it was necessary to mention my little bingle with the kerb because I had convinced myself that surely that wasn’t the cause of the flat...
After removing the tyre, Mr J scanned it for nails etc and said that strangely, he could not find any visible reason for the flat tyre and then he asked me, “Did you happen to hit a kerb or something?” I immediately thought to myself... this man has psychic powers! I hesitated for a moment before sheepishly admitting that there was a kerb that was jutting out on a corner... that I accidently clipped...
It was a costly event as we had to fork over another $200 for a replacement as the tyre was beyond repair.
I was not in the good books to say the least!

My lovely daughter in-law Wendy, celebrated her thirty-first Birthday last Sunday and we enjoyed high tea at a restaurant in Cronulla overlooking the beach. It was a beautiful, sunny winter’s day and we soaked up the glorious views while tucking into the delicate ribbon sandwiches and luscious cup cakes.
The adults and children enjoyed the novelty of high tea and it was certainly a fun way to celebrate a birthday.

The late nights of watching Wimbledon are over for yet another year, although there were certainly some exciting matches that kept us awake until the wee hours of the morning. Our Leyton Hewitt really put up a courageous fight against Roddick who was just awesome.
The final between Federer and Roddick was a magnificent spectacle of impossible agility, endurance and athleticism.
I was totally mesmerised by their extraordinary performances!
The Williams sisters were too good for the Russians this year and it was another powerful 'sister act' final.

Our TV viewing is now focussed on the Tour De France as we immerse ourselves in the thrills and spills of the cyclist’s journey and ogle over the picturesque French countryside.
It’s sure to be an exciting contest - good luck to all of the competitors!
Brow Power

Well shaped eyebrows certainly make a difference to a women’s face.

Wise Words

In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70+ birthday.. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older.
And, there on television, she said it was 'exciting.'
Regarding body changes, she said there were many, occurring every day...like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist, first.
The audience laughed so hard they cried. She is such a simple and honest woman, with so much wisdom in her words!
Maya Angelou also said this:
“I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.”
'I've also learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.'
Maya is a remarkable Wise Woman.
