My Week

Well after my recent trip to outback Australia, I’ve taken a few days to just chill out.

My week has been filled with healthy eating (except for Friday lunch and Saturday dinner), meditation, tai chi and breathing exercises.

I have intentionally taken the time to smell the roses and at the same time I have discovered just how difficult it is to slow down or to just be.

Try it for yourself and see if you can master “the do nothing thing”.

It’s really weird, it’s like we feel guilty for not actually doing anything!

Each morning before my feet reach the floor, I repeat this mantra – “life is as easy as I want to make it”. These simple words give me permission to slow down and enjoy more moments.

You see, for a number of weeks I’ve been really pushing my limits and as my energy depleted I realised that my body was sending me a clear message to “SLOW DOWN”.

How many of us listen to that message?

Slowing down can be a very difficult command to obey, particularly when there are so many expectations of us, work, family, lifestyle etc.

Of course work is very important and those that work need to put in extra efforts at this time of economic uncertainly to retain their jobs. However, we can cut down on other demands. If you don’t feel like cooking a big meal at night, have toast or just a snack and if your husband/partner complains, encourage him to take his turn to cook a meal.

If you really don’t feel up to attending a social function – decline the invitation. If you are asked to do something that you don’t think you can cope well with at the moment just say, “sorry but not this time”. Some of us tend to believe that by saying no, our friends or families will feel disappointed with us – well girls...that’s not our problem is it?

We need to take responsibility for our own health and wellbeing. If we don’t care for ourselves who will care for us?

We deserve to be looked after and we deserve to rest when our mind and body needs to.

Take the phone off the hook – soak in a warm bubble bath and pamper thyself!

Whatever Happened to Susan Boyle?

The whole world was stunned when 48 year old Susan Boyle took to the stage and amazed us with her extraordinary talent.

Recently Susan, has cancelled a second concert and Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell admits that, in the case of managing Boyle's fast-rising fame, "I've made mistakes." "Looking back on it all, it has become clear to me that we didn't handle the situation with Susan as well as we could have," Cowell wrote in a telling editorial that appeared in Britain's Daily Mail this weekend. "She seemed fine with all the attention. ... I thought perhaps naively that she was in control."

As the May 30 finale approached, however, Cowell was getting calls from the show's production team telling him the 48-year-old Scottish singer was anything but fine.

"It had become clear that Susan was finding the experience difficult to cope with," writes Cowell, who insisted that Boyle always have a close friend or relative with her at all times for support.

Before the finale aired, Cowell chatted with Boyle, but "I didn't pick up on any unduly troubling signs," he says. But when the votes were tallied and the dance troupe Diversity took the top prize, "I looked over at her face and thought: 'Christ, she doesn't know how to deal with not winning " Cowell writes. "It was a bad moment."

Cowell chose not to go into details about Boyle's hospitalisation immediately following the show's finale, only saying, "No need to repeat the details here - that wouldn't be fair to Susan."

The price of fame can come at a huge cost and we all certainly wish Susan all of the best. Let’s hope that she can regain optimum health and that her life becomes a happy and fulfilling journey for her.

Let's support Susan - have your say here

5 Keys to Living the Law of Attraction

Some people find the Law of Attraction is not something they can use or need in their lives and one of the main reasons they feel this way is because they probably don’t fully understand how the Law of Attraction can benefit them by helping them live happier, fuller and more productive lives.

However, for those of us that already know the basics of the Law of Attraction, we are already reaping the benefits by applying it to our daily lives.

These 5 Keys will help you to unlock your potential by using the -

Law of Attraction
.

Be mindful. By simply paying full attention to everything around you, you will start noticing more opportunities surrounding you.

Be focused. As you set out to achieve your goals and dreams, remember to stay totally focused on each task at hand. While there may be many tasks leading to your ultimate goal, breaking it down into several manageable tasks will help you to maintain total focus, one step at a time.

Be positive. A positive outlook and attitude is essential—crucial, even—to living the Law of Attraction. A pessimistic nature hinders progress and prevents visions, which are also essential to living and applying the Law of Attraction to your life.

Be assertive. Sometimes you might not feel very confident or sure of yourself. It is during these times that you need to especially practice asserting yourself. Be confident in who you are. Remind yourself frequently that you have everything you need for what you need to do.

Be proactive. Let’s face reality here: Nothing in life comes free. Everything you obtain or become will be because you got up and worked hard for it. It isn’t enough to have dreams, although dreams and goals are important. You can’t sit around and wish your days away, hoping something will just magically happen. The Law of Attraction requires action on your part.

How to Use the Law of Attraction in Everyday Life -

The general idea behind the Law of Attraction is that you call into your life whatever it is your thoughts are fixed upon. A positive attitude is essential to those of us who want to apply the Law of Attraction to our lives.

Many people use the Law of Attraction for various reasons ie;

love, wealth, happiness, health and power.

Keep a positive mind and bring the

Law of Attraction into your life by:

1. Repeating a positive affirmation throughout each day.

These few words can be powerful, you can create your own affirmation, such as; “I am a worthy human being and people love me for who I am,” or “I am determined to eat healthy today for my own well being”. You can also use various motivational quotes such as; “self trust is the first secret of success and I trust myself completely”.

2. Goal setting.

Know what you want and create yourself a
clear action plan. It’s up to you to put this plan into motion. Nothing will happen unless you put in the effort. Write down the steps that you need to take to achieve your goal, revise them each day to make it happen. You know you can do it!

3. Evaluate your purpose.

Once you have your goals defined you will begin feel your purpose. Your goals will give you an idea of what you want to reach and your purpose will then guide you towards these goals. Every thought, action and deed will be focussed and aimed towards your goals.

You know you can do it!

Start today Wise Women and get what YOU want out of life!

Bon Voyage Joan

A wise women and very good friend has just departed Sydney on yet another wonderful journey. Her first stop is Bangkok to do a bit of defrosting from Sydney’s freezing winter and then it’s on to Newcastle in England to catch up with her wonderful family and then on to London and Prague. I wish her a safe and happy holiday and can’t wait until she returns so that we can read all about her adventure (as promised).

In Memoriam

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.   Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey", died peacefully at age 93.   The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin.  They put his left leg in.  And then the trouble started...

Hi Wise Women

Thank you for visiting me and I hope lady luck has been walking beside you lately on this wonderful journey that we call - "LIFE".

My Week

Me walking on the Salt Lakes

I have had such a wonderful weekend, as I travelled to the Salt Lakes in Lake Eyre, South Australia. This phenomenal area is outback Australia (desert) and the salt lake floods about every 40 years.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to witness this rare and extraordinary event as I doubt very much that I will be here for the next one.

The experience was a "once in a lifetime opportunity" and the scenery was so mystical that it was hard to believe what my eyes were actually seeing.

Unfortunately the  3 day expedition did not always go to plan.

Click here to read my eventful saga.

Back to the 60’s

Rock and roll dancing, hot rods and hooped skirts inundated Coolangatta, Queensland, the annual location for the 2009 Wintersun Festival.

Wintersun is Australia's leading rock & roll nostalgia retro event.

I really felt as though I had been transported back in time and what a great time it was.

The place was jumping, 1500 spectacular hot rods, classic & custom cars were on show for the entire weekend and the car owners performed regular "turbo charged" parades up and down the streets to the audible delight of the many passionate car enthusiasts.

The blue suede shoes were receiving a work out as thousands of dancers took to the streets rocking and rolling with 80 bands keeping the crowds entertained.

The Elvis impersonators were everywhere and had the masses “all shook up”.

This was the perfect time to relive my younger years, and soak up the atmosphere of this enchanting era. My inner child also indulged in the culinary delights of bygone years – fairy floss, dag-wood dogs and toffee apples...girls, those were the days weren’t they?

For a few hours I immersed myself into the past and was a little sad when the final Elvis left the area.

Turn Back the Clock

At the Wintersun Festival I felt like I was sweet 16 again, however, my reflection in the mirror brought me crashing back to reality.

I feel so young but look so old!

I’m even more inspired to work harder on finding ways of turning back the clock.

Life Matters

Life can really seem like a blink of an eye, although some days may seem longer than others, however, when you think about it, life really does go by so rapidly.

Many of us may think about our purpose in life, and the legacy we will leave behind.

Did we make our mark on this world?

Did we help people, make people smile, impart valuable knowledge to our children and grandchildren and have we tried hard to be the best person that we can be...and...will we be remembered?

Although we are all different, we all crave the same things – love, acceptance and understanding.

It's not difficult to make a difference in someone's life, just a simple smile or a hug could change someone’s day.

People of all walks of life want to be accepted for who they are, don't try and change them, just accept them for them.

If we all did this, this world would certainly be a much better place.

PS To have maximum hug impact – the hug must last for at least 7 seconds!

Food For The Soul

One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head.

She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mum?" Her mother replied, "Well, every time you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white."

The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, "Mummy, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?"

Until next time Wise Women –  remember to smile and hug.

Hi Wise Women and Welcome

Hope you had a happy week
.

My Week

I’ve been busy this week visiting healers.

On Tuesday I had my acupuncture treatment and on Wednesday I had some bio energy healing.

During my energy healing session my facilitator Betty, relayed a message to me from her guides concerning my hubby. The message was (in brief terms) that he was not living the life that he should be. He had been too giving of himself and had not given himself time to fulfil his own purpose in life.

I must say, it is difficult passing on a message to the male species who may or may not believe in higher beings. It was a tricky conversation, particularly when I said it would be a good idea to visit my Shaman to release any blockages that may well be stopping him from fulfilling his purpose. As he listened, he gave me a wry smile, however, I think that he may have taken in some of what I had said as he seems somehow – a little more relaxed with a new found sense  of freedom. It appears that the message had somehow lifted a burden; it had given him permission to do things for himself and for his happiness without feelings of guilt. He still hasn’t sought an appointment with my Shaman...but maybe he will soon.

My son-in-law celebrated his birthday last week and we dined out at a fabulous Greek restaurant.

I just love Greek food and the atmosphere was perfect this evening, Zorba was being played in the background as the wine was  generously poured from authentic jugs. The familiar sound of diners passionately engaging in animated and noisy conversation had my memory flooding back to previous trips to Athens and the Greek Isles. Greece is one of my favourite destinations in the world. I must go back again... someday...

We feasted on platters of authentic Greek food and even tried the Greek wine, Retsina, which I don’t recommend – but that is another story for later.

At the end of the night our stomachs were groaning with the copious amounts of food and wine we had ingested and Miss Charli was fast asleep on poppy’s lap. Although we could hardly move, we did have a fabulous celebration and we made it safely to bed by 3:30am.

Don’t even talk about the next day!

A Blink of an Eye

Life can change at the blink of an eye. I visited my hairstylist today to discover that my gorgeous, talented, young colourist had moved back home to the country as her father was involved in a very serious motor cycle accident. Sadly he has endured horrific injuries and we can only pray for him and wish him well.

I just expected to see my colourist this morning as I made my usual 6 weekly visit. Isn’t it amazing what we take for granted? I was looking forward to our usual happy chat, catching up with each other’s latest news.

I understand her mother is a regular reader of wisewomansworld.com and my heart goes out to her and her family.

Our collective healing thoughts are with you all.

Funny Moments

On a happier note – Do you enjoy reflecting back on funny moments in your life?

Many of my personal funny moments have also been embarrassing moments and I’ll share a few with you.

Recently my son, TJ, was hospitalised and I said I would pick him up from the hospital as he was expecting to be discharged. I drove to the hospital which was about a 30 minute drive from home and after a challenging time trying to secure parking, I was ready to collect him. As I opened the car door I realised to my horror that I was not wearing any shoes and I quickly thought – where the hell are they? Oh no, I realised in my haste, I had forgotten to wear any. It was raining outside, anyway, how could I possibly contemplate visiting a hospital ward in bare feet? I rang my son on the cell phone and asked him to call me when he was discharged and I would pull up outside of the hospital doors to collect him.

After 2 long hours, sitting in my car in the car park – I receive a call from my son, “Sorry mum, but the doctor said he won’t discharge me until tomorrow!”

I experienced a similar event a number of years ago, when I was working for a well respected promotions company in a major department store.

As usual, I was rushing to get to work on time, I parked the car and was about to step out onto the footpath when I noticed I was still wearing my slippers! Oh bugger!

The only thing I could do was to find a shoe store pronto and buy some shoes – luckily I had some cash on me.

I must say, I did receive some strange looks from shoppers as I self-consciously stumbled into the shoe store wearing – less than attractive bunny slippers.

On another occasion, my daughter’s christening, I realised the day before the event (Saturday) that I hadn’t yet bought a christening cake. I immediately rushed into the large department store and eyed the pretty christening cakes on display. I asked the trainee shop attendant if the perfect looking christening cake was a fruit cake and she replied, “Yes”. I asked if I could purchase the one on display as the christening was being held the following day (Sunday) and in those days the shops were not open on Sundays.  To my delight she kindly packed up the cake for me and I happily headed back home feeling very proud of myself.

The following day, the Christening celebration was going perfectly and the time had come to cut the cake.

The beautiful pink iced cake shaped like a crib was admired by all. I held my 6 month old daughter’s hand as we began to cut the cake smiling broadly at the camera.

Suddenly the knife began to bend, and I naturally thought that the cake might be a little stale so I continued to hack away without success.

Mr J removed a piece of the icing to check what was happening and realised that the cake was made of polystyrene...it was fake!

My face quickly reddened as my guests burst into hysteric laughter –

I had bought the dummy display cake!

My final funny and totally embarrassing moment was at a party; our "BEST FRIENDS" had invited us to a fancy dress party at 8pm on a hot, summer Saturday night. We arrived on time and were surprised that so many guests had arrived before us as their cars were parked in a long line that stretched way up the road.

We knocked on the door and noticed that the host was not yet dressed in costume. We entered the living room and people jumped out from everywhere laughing and screeching. No-one was wearing fancy dress!

We soon realised we were the entertainment! I was dress as a biker in a black garbage bag tethered with chains and Mr J was dressed in my clothes, a ladies wig, stilettos, make up - the lot...of course he was dressed as Tootsie!

I am still trying to think of a way to get even with our "FRIENDS " after all of these years.

Share some of your funny moments with us -
